A New Home for Kim's Kids

Donation protected
As a Vincentian with the Saint Vincent DePaul Society, I have met many people with numerous needs over the years, but no one has touched my heart like Kim and her three young children.

Kim, a young mother living in Mason, Ohio, lost her husband in a tragic accident two years ago. Shortly after, a kind family donated a trailer for her and her children - 8-year old Isaiah, 7-year old Setheah, and 3-year old Tobias.

Kim was so grateful for the trailer because it put a roof over her children's heads and prevented them from being homeless. But the trailer's problems are beyond repair.

The trailer was built in 1956. The floors are deteriorating and some have collapsed which causes water pipes to freeze and allows mice to come into the trailer. About one third of the electric does not work and cannot be safely repaired. None of the windows seal, offering no security or insulation. There is not a functional stove so meals are prepared on a hot plate. Her daughter's bedroom is actually a laundry "area" so all laundry is washed by hand.

Kim supports herself and her family on $750 per month in Social Security, food stamps and medical assistance. With no car - and no child care for Tobias- Kim is currently unable to work. She also works very hard to care for Isaiah, who has special needs due to Autism, Asperger's disease and ADHD.

Although her home is falling apart, her community is strong. With no close family, she has found a critical support system for her children through Mason schools and her neighbors. She is also in a location that allows her to walk to many of the places she needs to go. Due to Kim's Crohns's disease, Kim is facing a major surgery soon and will need the help of her neighbors. That is why it is essential for her to stay in her current trailer park.

Kim is a wonderful, caring and responsible mother who is doing her best to provide for her children. If I had been blessed with a daughter, I hope that she would have had Kim's heart, joy, gratitude, kindness, patience and perseverance. Kim keeps a positive outlook despite all her challenges.

My goal is to raise $15,000 to purchase a more functional and safe trailer in the same mobile home park where they currently live. This would be life-changing for Kim and her children, but simply impossible for them without the help of others.

I cannot express how grateful we would be for your support. Donating and/or sharing this GoFundMe page with your friends and social network would mean so much.

Thank you,
