Neurosurgeon fights his brain tumor!

You have reached the fundraiser started by the scientists that worked side-by-side with Yoichiro at Harvard and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Yoichiro moved his wife and four children to Boston to work as a scientist. Before that, he had led a stable life as a neurosurgeon in Japan. He took a significant pay cut to change his career and knew that he would struggle to make ends meet for his family. However, he believed so strongly in developing new diagnostics and treatments for patients that he made the jump anyway. Three years after the move, he suddenly and unexpectedly developed a cancerous brain tumor (glioma) that has made him very sick. He is now struggling to pay for his treatments and support his family. His prognosis is poor due to the tumor's location in his brainstem, where surgeons can't reach to cut it out. We are doing our best to help him survive and receive experimental treatments that other scientists are just starting to test. These are his best chance at living longer and being able to spend more time with his family.

こんにちは。

ハーバード大学とマサチューセッツ総合病院で陽一郎さんと共に働いていた科学者達が立ち上げた募金のページへようこそ。

陽一郎さんは、研究目的で妻と4人の子供達を連れて米国ボストンに来ました。それまでは日本で脳外科医として働いていましたが、患者の命を救うための最新の診断と治療を開発することを志し、経済的犠牲を払い一大決心をして渡米しました。しかし3年半が経過し、皮肉なことに、本人が深刻な脳腫瘍（グリオーマ）に悩まされることになったのです。腫瘍は脳幹部にあるため、手術は不能で予後不良です。陽一郎さんは、現在、治療費を捻出し家族を養うために経済的困難にも陥っています。私たちは、科学者仲間として、これまで世のために尽くしてきた彼には、他の研究者達が試行中の最新で最良の治療を受けてほしいと願っています。そして、少しでも長く家族との時間を過ごしてほしいと願っています。
