A Mother's Plea: Fund Son's Jewish Learning

Hello Everyone,

I am a first time Jewish single mother of an incredible two and a half year old son struggling to make ends meet.

He is currently enrolled in a Two’s program at a private Jewish preschool in Brooklyn that is a 15 minute walk from my apartment building. Being that I do not have a car, the location of the school couldn’t be better.

Unfortunately, the school is unwilling to offer any type of sliding scale or discounted rate on the expensive tuition.

Furthermore, the school has an NYC DOE funded 3K and PreK program so he can continue to be in a Jewish setting when he turns 3 and 4, but they have a Jewish Enrichment portion of the day, plus a monthly security fee which they are charging for which totals to $5,780 for the year.

It is my greatest wish to provide my son with a Jewish education. I want him to grow up to be proud of his Jewish heritage. It is of the utmost importance for my son to be surrounded by Jewish children and teachers and community, especially in these incredibly antisemitic times where it seems as if the whole world is against the Jewish people and Israel.

I have been doing everything in my power to make my son’s Jewish education a reality. However, despite working full time to cover rent, utilities, daily living expenses and food, I have reached a breaking point.

With prices rapidly increasing everywhere, living in the daily has become near impossible. It is a constant struggle to make the monthly payments for his preschool tuition. The payments are $1,634 per month for this current 2024-2025 school year.

I am pleading to the Jewish community to please help me in any way that you can so that my son can continue in the current Two’s program and next year’s tuition for the Jewish enrichment portion of the school day.

Without your support, I fear that I will be forced to remove my son from his Jewish preschool and take him away from his wonderful teachers and friends and enroll him in a public school, which would be a significant deviation from the path I am working so hard to keep him on.

Your kindness and generosity can make a profound difference in our lives, ensuring that my son can continue his Jewish education and remain in the supportive and nurturing environment that this Jewish preschool provides.
