A Miracle For George

"Your dad only has 24-48 hours to live…" That’s what the head ICU doctor told us.

A week earlier, My parents were on their dream vacation, celebrating 40 years of marriage. But then out of nowhere, my dad became deathly ill. He was airlifted to a hospital in Seattle, where for an entire week the ICU doctors tried to figure out why my dad wasn’t responding to treatment. That’s when the head doctor of the ICU told us my dad’s death was imminent. It was the most heart breaking moment of my life as my mom, brother and I all broke down crying. We had a talk I never thought I’d have to have, How to get my dad’s body back to California.

As a last ditch effort they would start giving my dad anti-fungal medicine. The good news is that he finally started responding to the treatment. The bad news, my dad had caught a rare fungal infection that overtook 50% of both of his lungs. But for that next week my dad started to show small signs of improvement. My mom, brother, and I all staying at his bedside waiting for him to wake up.

But he hasn’t yet.

The neurologist used the word, “Coma” when talking about my dad’s new condition. He said it’s normal when someone has undergone such great illness. But he also told us that it could take months before he wakes up. So now I’m trying to figure out our long term plans having 3 small kids, being married, and having my dad, brother, mom and I in Seattle far from all of our homes and support systems.

As my dad continues to heal, I will be flying back and forth several times each month until my dad is well again, having to cover my lodging expenses, in state travel and food. My mom and brother are planning on staying in Seattle until he recovers. After only 3 weeks the expenses have been racking up. We now have at least another month before he wakes up.

Please consider helping support us so that we can be with our dad when he wakes up.

Thank you,
