As most of you know, my grandmother fought Alzheimer's for many years. Watching someone you love fade away with no hope of coming back crushed our entire family. Today my mother, at 61, is fighting the same horrific illness. It is debilitating her day by day. My Mother, Liliana Melly has been my role model and the most amazing, caring mother and grandmother I could ever ask for. Unfortunately I've started to see many of the same issues my grandmother had. She becomes very emotional, anxious, and confused. She mixes her words, can't finish sentences and she doesn't understand what is happening at times. She can no longer cook, drive freely and has been demoted at work - soon she will not be able to work at all. My mom is not the same mom I've always had. I am slowly losing her... She still loves to sing and dance and that lively soul we all know STILL EXISTS!
My family and I are fighting with her and taking every step we can. In order to do so, we are asking for YOUR help. We have been seeing our amazing family friend, Dr. Federico Martinez, who specializes with Alzheimer patients and alternative and functional medicine. He has given us hope that we have the chance to slow down the effects and potentially even reverse some of her symptoms of Alzheimer's. The help and treatment that he can provide is not covered by her insurance. She will receive an intense, customized treatment plan which will require her to visit Dr. Martinez twice a week as well as begin a complete lifestyle change. I am asking for you to please have the same hope and FAITH that my family and I do and help us save my mother. The clock is ticking so she needs to start this treatment as soon as possible.
