Our story~
Five years ago, this June... I met and fell in love with Dermot.   Me being from CT and Derm from NY, he didn't hesitate for a second, moved up here and we stared a life together.  Any one who knows Derm, knows he's a passionate, mountain of a man, with a strong character,  morals, and strength you don't often see.  He loves with every fiber of his being, and his love and loyalty is unbound.   He has made such a difference in my life , in the person I am.  His support and love, make me fearless!!  He believes in me like I never knew anyone could.   I see how he touches the life of others,  constantly cheering them on, taking them in his giant hands, and lifting them up pushing people to excel and succeed... and those giant hands and strong words guiding you right along... and there to catch you if you fall.   We have shared so much laughter, love  and so many tears along our journey, but I have been blessed to be loved by him.
The following February after we met , Dermot was diagnosed with a blood clot,,, over the last 4 1/2 years he's had a few more blood clots, surgery for 2 aneurisms, pneumonia so seriously he was intabated and on a ventilator, unconscious for a week.   In 2015 he was diagnosed with cancer , he received a lobectomy, and did chemo.   They said said the cancer was gone.

On November 30th 2017, Dermot was diagnosed with metastatic non cell lung cancer , stage 4.    It is incurable, only the symptoms can be treated.   It has spread to his chest cavity, his blood and his bones.

He was given 1 year to live.  12 months...

Dermot has received 2 rounds of radiation, to help with the pain.   And entered into an immune therapy,   Last week we were told.  The immune therapy is not working, they will be stopping the treatment.  This past week, we entered into palliative care, that is a step away from hospice.    In the next few weeks hospice will be involved, to make sure Dermot's pain is controlled and he has all he needs...

Statistics  for this cancer is .. 50 % of people survive after 8 months.  5 % after 1 year.. 0 % 5 year survival rate...

We are 6 months into this part of our journey together... we have cried oceans of tears, had some laughs, made some memories.. most importantly, loved unconditionally,  and feel blessed for the time we do have.

We have managed to save some money,  it's not enough...   we need help, to help pay for his funeral,,,
I have used most of my vacation on Dr appointments and days Dermot wasn't well enough to be home alone...
Days like that will be more often,,, I want to take a leave of absence from work,, when the time comes.. to spend every minute,, trying to shove a lifetime of love into weeks...and we are trying to save to get his brother here from Ireland.    He's come once,,, he will be making 2 more trips... one to make memories one to say goodbye.
Any money donated will be used to help me, be able to take time off to care for Derm,,, and to help pay for his funeral...
I completely understand if people cannot help,,, then all I ask.... pray.. please,  for comfort and peace, for Derm...
