A Life Celebrated: Jordan Almester

I'm glad we had the times together just to laugh and sing a song, seems like we just got started and then before you know it, the times we had together were gone. - Dr. Seuss

Who was our friend Jordan? He was someone a little bit different to all of us. He liked Batman, gnomes, and sports. He loved his dog Lucky that he rescued. He had many good years playing rugby. He wanted nothing more than to meet up with friends and talk about life over a cold one. He considered his friends as his family. Jordan gave GREAT hugs and had an open ear for anyone in need of a chat. For all those fortunate to have known him, we would like to celebrate his life. The one he lived beside each of us, so fully and honestly.

You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. - Harvey Dent

We can all attest to Jordan's selflessness, always there for support, often to a fault. He may not have worn a cape, but was a hero to all at some point and time.

"Don't worry about it, buddy", he'd tell me.
"You can get the next round." or "Buy your wife something nice..."

Well, I think everyone would like to help YOU this time, Jordan. Many friends and family have asked to contribute,  ensuring you are not only sent off appropriately but to help with any final arrangements. There is no doubt you would hate me for creating this. Well, sorry dude, we're calling the shots now.

Thank you so much for all who have offered to help. If there are excess donations outside of what is needed for final arrangements, we will donate the money to an appropriate charity in Jordan's name.

UPDATE

THANK YOU, to everyone who has donated. Our expectations have been greatly exceeded. I wanted to provide a few extra details.

In case you do not know who I am, I met Jordan in 2007 when I first moved to Tampa. We played rugby together and he was quick to take me under his wing. More recently, I was honored to have Jordan as my best man in my wedding.

I also wanted to share how the funds will be distributed. - The Celebration of Life event  (food, beverages, memory cards)
- Two obituaries in local newspapers (Toledo, Ohio & Tampa, FL)
- Expenses related to Jordan's dog Lucky, such as vet related costs, monthly medications, and ultimately finding a forever home for him. In addition, we will also be donating money in Jordan's name to local animal rescue programs.
- Exploring options and costs related to his cremation (such as a living urn)

- Jordan attended Maumee Valley Country Day School in Ohio and they have created a scholarship fund:
The Jordan Almester Memorial Fund will support Maumee Valley’s student-athletes, who receive financial aid, pay for auxiliary expenses associated with playing on a team sport not covered by the school’s athletics budget. The Athletic Director shall determine how the fund is distributed with a preference of helping students who play in multiple team sports throughout the year.

- Any remaining funds will be donated in Jordan's name to several appropriate charities.

The majority of the funds will ultimately be withdrawn and deposited into one savings account. The money raised for charities will be withdrawn through cashier checks and addressed to the approporiate organizations. Invoices for the two obituaries will be paid electronically, and the celebration of life event will be paid in cash, covering food and beverages.

Thank you again for your generous contributions!
