On 10/16/1991, my baby brother came into this world. Born with a genetic condition called Cystic Fibrosis, he has had to fight every single day of his 26 years to maintain his health and overall quality of life. There have been many struggles and obstacles along the way; however, he has, and continues, to remain strong and positive, hoping that one day a cure will be found.
Medical advancements throughout the years have helped increase his quality of life; however, these medications did not come without sacrifice. Due to many of the harsh medications to keep him alive, his kidneys are now failing.
2016 and 2017 have proven to be extremely difficult years for TJ, as well as my entire family. There were many hospital stays due to TJ’s decreasing kidney functioning, which caused his overall health to decrease significantly. In August 2017, TJ had to be placed on dialysis to save his life, while he waits for a new kidney.
After many hours, days, weeks, months, and years of sacrifice, TJ has finally had his first appointment with the transplant team at Tampa General Hospital. He is finally ready for his new kidney and new life to begin. However, just as he’s faced in his 26 years of living, there is now another barrier to overcome: The Insurance. While the transplant is covered for TJ, the donor is not. The social worker has advised that the donor’s expenses of $25,000 must be paid before they will even start testing possible candidates.
We are determined to do whatever is necessary to make this happen, which is why this Go Fund Me has been started. Any amount is appreciated, as this will help lessen the burden for our parents. They have already exhausted their funds in just getting to this point. Please help us get the funds needed to give TJ a new start at life.
