There was also an invasive pre-op procedure that involved the doctor to insert a metal piece into her body to track the growth, as it seemed to show no end in it's continued growth. It was nearing the size of a quarter. <em>The pre-op procedure occurred days before the surgery.</em>

<div>After the pre-op procedure <em>(once they implanted the metal piece)</em>, she was informed of the cost of the surgery that would be occurring a few days later, ultimately being <strong>$26,778.44</strong> and how she wouldn't be able to do any form of payment plan. This is <strong>because she has no health insurance. </strong>

<div>This was a shock to Angeli because they hadn’t informed her of this prior to getting started with the pre-op procedure of inserting her with a metal piece to track the growth. She figured that she would be allowed a payment plan, especially since no one explained this to her.

<div><strong>After negotiating with the hospital</strong>, she was able to get the original total amount due reduced from $53,556.89 to $26,778.44 <em>(which is still way outside of what she is able to handle financially)</em>.

<div>She agreed to this price because <strong>she had to have this procedure to remove the painful growth. </strong>She also agreed because<strong> </strong>they had already implanted the metal piece to track the growth and they did that prior to informing her of this giant bill. She wanted that metal out of her body.

<div><strong>Angeli works with a non-profit collective</strong> and she does amazing work based on the belief that communities impacted by disparities, <em>such as having no health insurance</em>, have the vision and experience to guide change.
