A House for Stacia

Donation protected
Friends, it's almost time for me to head off into the wilderness and I need to let you all know about what I am doing. I have a friend who is in crisis and she needs my help, and I need yours.

This strong, beautiful, independent woman is my dear friend Stacia, and the little angel beside her is my goddaughter Sara. They live in Georgetown, Guyana, where we met so many years ago. When I was working in Guyana, Stacia was my rock. She was always there when I needed help (which was a lot!) and she could never give too much. Truly a selfless woman she is. Sara came along on 16th November 2014, just a few hours after my birthday!

Since then, a lot has happened in their lives. Sara was recently diagnosed with autism, for which we love her all the more. Stacia is on her own and works full time, which makes their situation pretty difficult as it is. She has to pay a lot for her to go to one of the only schools in the country that supports kids with special needs and, like all people in Guyana, it’s hard to make ends meet. On top of it all, her landlord is selling her house, so she's about to become homeless.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel for her, I hope. The Guyanese government has offered her a loan to buy into a government housing scheme where she can have some security and a proper home for her family. Unfortunately she has to cover 20% of the loan before she is eligible, about £6000 - in Guyana terms that is pretty much the EuroMillions jackpot.

I love my friend and I know I'm in a good position to do something amazing for her. I know she would do the same for me. So I'm starting this crowdfunding campaign to help raise money for them to buy their house, and I'm starting it off by walking across Britain.

To spread the word about my campaign, and to hopefully inspire people to donate some money, I'm going to walk from Land's End to John O' Groats. That's the entire length of Britain, a total of 1,244 miles. I'm setting off from Land's End on 21st May and will be walking for 3 months, every drop of sweat in aid of my amazing friend and her beautiful daughter.
