Our family first visited the village of Flores De Villa, Peru in 2012, with our church Wayzata E. Free through an organization, Peruvian Partners. The founders of this ministry, David and Gina Stavros, attended our church before they gave lives to their mission 35 years ago. It was during our first experience that we met Carmen, her daughter Milagros, her son Joel, and her since deceased son, Santiago. It was after our second trip to Peru that we learned that Santiago, who had Down Syndrome, was diagnosed with leukemia. The next two years consisted of overnight hospital stays, long, repetitive commutes, tears, and the separation of Carmen and her two other kids multiple days on end. When Santiago's battle had ended, the loss was bittersweet; a family had lost a loved child who is now resting in Jesus's arms. Santiago was one who showed joy in a situation where some might believe no grain of joy could be found. During our third visit, we heard the entire story from Carmen and her family. The next day, we got to witness the baptism of Milagros, who now has dedicated her life to Jesus like her mom and brother. We wish to raise $10,000 to build Carmen's family a new house, one made of concrete and steel instead of cardboard and tin roofing. Plans have been designed to build the new house as a restaurant, where Carmen could use her proficient cooking to run the business. We, along with Carmen and her family, are so grateful for a donation of any kind. Thank you and God bless you.
