Hello, I'm Mel and asking for (and offering) help is something I do.
Sharing and helping others are really big core values for me. And I will definitely be paying this forward.
Anyway, here's my story.
After many many years of struggling as a single parent to balance part-time work and study, I've now got a great job and I've been squirrelling away as much money as I can towards a deposit on a little house of our own.
Unfortunately however, time is not on my side, and my family and I have to move out of our much loved rental home in January or February as it has been sold by the owner and will be redeveloped. It is likely that on my own, I would be somewhere between $7000 and $10000 short of the deposit (and upfront costs) that I need to be able buy us a little house before the end of the year. I have a few wonderful friends who have offered to lend me some of that already and this campaign is for those of you who would like to contribute a little as a gift.
The alternative, which is to move into a short term rental that costs money and will be a major upheaval for the kids and me and the dog, the cats and the 11 mature fruit trees that are coming with us, is really not appealing.
So here goes, if you are in a position to help (please don't if you're struggling at all), please donate something, no matter how small. We'll really appreciate it.
If you're local to me, write me a note asking me to return the favour with a jar of homemade jam every Summer, or eggs from the chickens that we'll eventually adopt, or instalments of mandarins, apples, cherries, nectarines or greens.
Alternatively, you may like to complement your donation with a suggestion for a name for one of our future chickens.
