Help My Mom Live Her Dream – A Safe, Healthy Home
Hello, my name is Océano. I’m creating this GoFundMe for my mom—she doesn’t know I’m doing this, and she might be upset, but I don’t care. She deserves the help, and I’m doing this out of love.
My mom is 57 and will be 58 this year. Recently, her health has declined after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Even before this, she’s faced a lifetime of physical pain and challenges.
When she was four months pregnant with me, she was in a devastating car accident. Her truck flipped multiple times and she was thrown through the windshield, landing hard on the asphalt. Since that day—October 1, 1997—she’s dealt with constant pain and a long list of health issues.
Despite it all, my mom has remained strong, independent, and determined. But now, her body is slowing down. Simple tasks take longer. She needs breaks just to ease the pain. And yet, she keeps going—not just for herself, but for others.
She’s been living in the same double-wide trailer since 1997, which she was able to buy with a small accident settlement. Over the years, I’ve seen that trailer almost catch fire multiple times from faulty wiring. The flooring is soft and rotted in places, the bathrooms have mold, and there are holes she’s tried to patch to keep animals out. She can barely get up the steps anymore.
She’s also raising my little cousin (now12), who she adopted to keep her out of foster care. That’s who my mom is: someone who steps up, even when she has almost nothing to give. She’s helped raise over a dozen children in our community, even fostering several over the years.
Now, she has a chance at a better life. Before she passed in 2022, my grandmother deeded my mom her mother’s home—the home my mom grew up in, full of beautiful childhood memories. But the house is in disrepair. It has no functioning bathroom (it was ripped out in 2006), and parts of the living room still need to be rebuilt.
We need to raise $35,000 to fix the essentials—plumbing, flooring, electrical, and safety issues—so my mom and adopted sister can finally move in and live comfortably. She dreams of living in that house. It’s the one place where she’s felt peace, and she’s afraid she’ll pass away before ever making it home.
I wish I could do more, but I’m a struggling part-time actor and full-time theme park performer assistant in Orlando, I do everything I can—but I can’t do this alone.
Anything you can give will help. Even the smallest donation brings us one step closer to giving my mom and sister the safe, peaceful home they deserve
Thank you for reading, for sharing, and for supporting someone who has spent her life caring for others.
With love and hope,
Océano
