A heartbroken father in need of support

Life will never be the same again...

Wednesday 31 July, 2019, was one of the happiest days for Nathan Katterns, who was over the moon with joy when it was formally confirmed by the Federal Family Court of Australia that his little girl was finally coming back home to live with him on the Gold Coast, Queensland, following a long 18 month legal process for access to his 3 year old daughter Iyla... as his ex-partner had taken her 1000km away interstate without consent.

Then… the unthinkable happened.

Less than 24 hours after the court ruling, on Thursday 1 August, everything changed, when Iyla was found passed away tucked into her bed at her mother’s house by Police. Iyla’s mother was also found in the house falling in and out of consciousness from a suspected drug overdose.

Little Iyla's life was tragically taken by her mother, which has devastated everyone that knew her.

Nathan (a school teacher from the Gold Coast) is considered by family and friends as one of the most caring, loving, giving and dotting fathers a little girl could ever want.  Iyla always wanted her Daddy to be near her.  Iyla felt loved and safe with her Dad. Iyla adored her dad.

Everyone is in shock.

Now Nathan and his family needs our support...

We want to assist in alleviating Nathan's financial burden while he, his family and friends grieve and then start to try and put the pieces of their lives back together during this very difficult and heartbreaking time.

We are reaching out to anyone that feels touched by this story, who would like to contribute in some way to assist the family with everyday living costs, legal and court cost debts (that were accumulated to defend a father’s right to have access to his little girl), as well as reducing the pressure of ongoing financial responsibilities in taking care of his son.

Part of the proceeds will also be used by Nathan to set up a fund in Iyla’s name to bring awareness and provide support to other parents who are faced with the challenge of having to fight for access just to see their child as well as lobby to change the legal process to ensure such a tragedy never happens again.

Remembering Iyla...
You will always be daddy's little girl 'moo' and loved to the moon, stars, heaven and back forever.  You will be remembered and in the hearts of everyone who met you.   Every time we look out across the ocean or up to the sky… we will always think of you as our ‘Angel Girl’
