The fight for life for Xander’s future

Please pray and give all your hope to our little man, Xander Dean. He went into end-stage heart failure when he was born on May 4, 2018. He fought for his life the first four months and he received his beautiful new donor heart on September 26, 2018. Xander is post transplant 11 months with zero rejection to his heart! He has overcome so much in his short life already and continues to teach me the true meaning of physical, mental and emotional agility.
It’s completely insane for us to type this and even comprehend everything we have heard in the last three weeks. It’s unreal to say the words because I thought a heart transplant was unbelievable to hear but sadly with a heavy heart Xander was diagnosed with liver cancer. It is a type of cancer predominant in young children called hepatoblastoma. However, this is a very rare cancer in his situation as a transplant recipient.
Due to the severity and time sensitivity to Xander’s case, we have decided to be transferred to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia based on their level of expertise and transplant institutions. Again, he is the FIRST patient they have ever seen with a history of cardiac disease and liver failure. WE NEED THE BEST OF THE BEST!
Xander has started chemotherapy and will be in treatment for about three months at CHOP. Thankfully, this is not a metastasized cancer therefore it hasn’t spread anywhere else on his body and god willingly it is not in his blood, vein or vessels. If his tumors shrink after chemo they will try to surgically remove them. I’m only going to talk about this possible option for now because I don’t want to even put it out in the universe that he’ll need a liver transplant.
