A Greener Council for a Greener Borders

Donation protected
The last two decades (and more) have seen a growing concern among Borderers for the environment and a greater understanding of the climate emergency that is upon us.
Our elected Council representatives have continually let us down, with empty words spoken, meaningless targets set for decades into the future, tinkering around the edges of environmental protection while at the same time encouraging increased road usage (and carbon emissions) and more destruction of our green spaces for unsustainable development.
Every candidate tells us that the environment is important; but for most of them, there is always some other issue that is more important to them that justifies leaving the climate emergency to another day. This is why we need Scottish Green Councillors on Scottish Borders Council. We are the only political party that genuinely sees the climate emergency as integral to every part of local decision making from potholes in the road to new school campuses. The more Councillors we have, the more the Council will listen.
For the Council elections in May this year we aim to have Scottish Green candidates standing in all eleven wards in Scottish Borders for the first time.
We need your help though – unlike other political parties, the Scottish Greens do not have the support of wealthy financial interests, and the campaigns to elect councillors will totally depend on local fundraising.
Each £500 raised will cover production of campaign literature for delivery into every household in one ward. The more we can raise, the more we can do to spread the Green message to voters in the Borders. And the more votes we win, the more likely it is that our elected Council will at last start to take the climate emergency seriously. Please give what you can – all donations, large or small, are gratefully received – thank you!
(Please note that we can only accept donations of more than £50 from individuals who are on the UK electoral register – if you are kind enough to donate more than £50 please email borders @ scottishgreens . org . uk , with your name and address so that this information can be checked against the electoral register. Your name, but not your address, will be made available to the commission on request after the election.)
*The fund raiser is Tim Clancey of 22 Wedale View, Stow, TD1 2SJ, who is a committee member of and acting on behalf of the Scottish Green Party Borders branch. Donations once received by the fund raiser will be transferred to the Scottish Green Party Borders branch account. Donations will then be used to support the Scottish Green campaign in the run up to the Scottish Borders council elections which take place on Thursday 5th May 2022.*
