A Drunk Driver Hit Our Son

In the early morning hours of Sunday, September 16, our son, 24 year-old Tony Palermino was driving home from work in Denver, Colorado, when a drunk driver T-Boned him running a red light at full speed. Two police officers witnessed the entire accident. Tony suffered brain bleeds, a ripped Aorta, fractured pelvis and hip and broken collar bone. They had to remove the roof of the vehicle to extricate him. The drunk driver walked away without a scratch and is thankfully in jail.
We had a lot of people praying for Tony and one by one the life-threatening injuries -- the brain bleeds and the aorta, and the bladder damage scare -- stabilized, and the pelvic and hip injuries were less severe than the doctors originally thought. The collar bone is still an issue, but Tony is going to pull through. He has a long road of recovery ahead of him.
We received the call early Sunday morning, and his mother Therese Palermino was on a plane within 4 hours. Right now the co-pays, the hotel fees, plus meals, car rental, and a great deal of other costs associated with this life-changing event are going to create a huge financial burden on us. We know the hotel will cost over $1,000 per month, car rental $400 per month. Meals will cost in the $500-$800 range. Also, husband and father John Gillispie will also have to take off work to travel to Denver, perhaps on several occasions to provide some relief for Therese and be there for Tony.
The co-pays to the hospital are already mounting up, and some of these have had to be paid immediately.
Any donations will be appreciated greatly. We will also appreciate any advice or information on resources available to help. There is no timeline on the need for the funds. More than anything we are thankful that Tony is still here with us and hope that down the road, Tony will be able to do the things he loves to do again, such as playing hockey and hiking. God bless.
