A Dose of Strength for Ashley's Breast Cancer TNBC

Ashley’s family had their life turned upside down when she was initially diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer in January 2019 and again in October 2020 when tumors resurfaced in her breast, lung, thyroid, and hip. At only 32 years old, Ashley and her husband Zach were well on their way to hitting their life groove alongside their three girls; Haley (7), Gracie (4), Lennox (2).
The Holtgrewes have approached these speed bumps with immeasurable amounts of strength, which has started with Ashley who said she is strong because she needs to be for her girls, and has resonated throughout their house with anyone who visits thanks to a simple sign made by Zach that hangs in the bedroom hallway and says “BE STRONG”. Family members and visitors touch the sign any time they walk by as a reminder of what it takes to battle in life’s journeys much like the players do with the “Play Like a Champion Today” sign that hangs in the stadium tunnel for the University of Notre Dame’s football team.
As a close family friend, I am organizing this page because I’ve seen how far the Holtgrewe’s message of strength can reach.  I hope for this page to provide a way for others to not only offer “doses” of strength for Ashley, but to also serve as positive reinforcement for anyone involved in a breast cancer journey and is looking for inspiration to continue battling every day. This dose can be an encouraging message or financial donation to either the Holtgrewes or research through the Breast Cancer Alliance https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=bca&id=1

While Ashley does have health insurance, it doesn't begin to fully cover all the expenses. Any donations will go toward covering additional health insurance costs from out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles for future treatments including but not limited to: chemotherapy, radiation, various oral medications, medical scans (CT, PET, MRI, etc.), and travel/lodging for weekly treatments at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

The family is immensely grateful for donations of any kind! They know that a financial gift is not possible for everyone, but would encourage you to share Ashley’s story with your friends and networks.
