A Service Dog for David

Donation protected
Dave has struggled with muscular dystrophy for 25 years, and each passing year has left him physically weaker. Though he has fantastic aides to assist him, the majority of his day is spent alone, and he is severely limited in doing tasks that you and I find second nature. After five years on a waiting list, Dave has now been invited to qualify for a service dog. These dogs are highly trained to aid those with disabilities. They can open and close doors, retrieve items from floors, desks, tables, and refrigerators, assist with some dressing and undressing activities, turn light switches on and off, and assist with shopping purchases. Although a non-profit organization trains and provides the dogs, the cost of $5,000 they charge does not even cover their expense to train and place the dog. There is also an 18 day training class Dave must attend with his new dog, which is takes place at a considerable distance from Dave’s home. The cost of housing and an aid for him while away are estimated to cost $1500 per week. Any and all donations to help make this possible for Dave would be greatly appreciated.
