A Diabetic Alert Dog for Jack

On February 13th 2018, two days after Jack’s 2nd birthday, he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (also known as Juvenile Diabetes). Type 1 Diabetes is a chronic condition in which insulin making cells in the pancreas are destroyed by the immune system. Jack is on two different types of insulin; he receives 4 shots daily, and has to get his glucose tested 5-8 times per day. It’s not hard to see why Type 1 Diabetes requires close observation and monitoring.
Along with the support from his brothers and extended family members, Jack is predominantly monitored and cared for by his attentive and loving parents: Greg and Ashley Keller. Like any active two year old, Jack enjoys playing outside and wresting with his older Brother, Hunter. As any busy parent would know, it’s impossible to be in two places at once. To help aid the Keller’s with their diligent efforts in caring for Jack’s condition, providing their family with a diabetic alert dog would gain them added protection and comfort.
Diabetic alert dogs are specially trained to alert diabetic handlers in advance of low or high blood sugar levels before they become dangerous. For a toddler like Jack, who is not able to adequately communicate his feelings, let alone translate them, having a diabetic service dog along side him would be extremely beneficial. However, due to the all-inclusive training that these dogs acquire, they come with a hefty price.
I know that Jack and his family would be eternally grateful if we could bless them with the funds to receive a buddy for Jack and some added reassurance! Let’s see what we can do for this tenacious, courageous, sweet little 2 year old!
