My 20 year old son Kash (Kashaveeyah Bragdon) is simply a breath of fresh air! The apple of his father's eye and best big brother ever.
Like most young guys, he loves music, games, gadgets and creating special effect videos and beats. He is also kind, helpful, caring, well-mannered, smart, confident, calm, hard-working, handsome and loves spending time with family.
Kash has hopes and dreams of being a successful entrepreneur and starting his own clothing line;
he remains optimistic in spite of his health challenges.
Kash was born with Sickle cell disease (SCD) SS. Sickle cell disease (aka sickle cell anemia is an inherited red blood cell disorder in which there aren't enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout your body. Normally, the flexible, round red blood cells move easily through blood vessels. In sickle cell anemia, the red blood cells are shaped like sickles or crescent moons. These rigid, sticky cells can get stuck in small blood vessels, which can slow or block blood flow and oxygen to parts of the body, causing severe pain episodes that may require hospitalization.
Kash has endured numerous pain crisis, hospitalizations, blood transfusions and has even had pneumonia several times throughout his life.
Though you will never hear him complain, because he is a warrior who hides his pain, he has always longed to experience life as a normal young man; wondering what life would be like if he could play team sports without his low oxygen/hemoglobin level draining him to the point of weakness and exhaustion. Kash has always longed for the opportunity to go swimming without suffering the consequence of a severe pain crisis afterwards.
After recently learning that Kash is experiencing early signs of organ damage and that the only options would be to slowly deteriorate or have a bone marrow transplant, our family had to face some harsh decisions. Blood tests revealed that my 15 year old son Kazaryah is a full sibling-donor match for Kash. In order to prevent any further organ damage, bone marrow transplant specialist at UF Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL. have agreed that this is the only option of hope for giving Kash a normal and healthy life, free of pain crisis that damage the organs of the body and even cause stroke and is the only known CURE FOR HIS SICKLE CELL DISEASE; the bone marrow transplant.
This is a very extensive and serious procedure that will require myself and my son Kash to relocate to Gainesville, FL. for approximately 60-90 days, beginning on January 8th, 2021. These emergency funds are needed to assist us with relocation expenses, transportation, personal/caregiver expenses, loss of wages during this period of time that Kash will need my full support and therapy throughout recovery as his immune system may take up to a year to totally recover from this rigorous procedure.
