A Cure for India

Donation protected
In November of 2016, our one-year-old daughter India was diagnosed with a rare disorder called Portal Vein Thrombosis. After several hiccups along the way, we were finally able to schedule time with a doctor who is known for pioneering and perfecting the cure for her condition (the Meso Rex Shunt). Going forward, our largest obstacle will be that the doctor is located in Chicago, and we would be required to stay there for minimum of four weeks for labs, the procedure, recovery, and follow-ups.

Our insurance will cover India's surgery, but my wife and I will need to take unpaid time off to be with her. During this time, we will need help covering related costs not covered by insurance, such as travel and living expenses. The procedure will take place near the end of August, so we have a short amount of time to save and raise the funds.

We are incredibly grateful for your friendship, kindness, and generosity. We sincerely appreciate any support you can offer, especially your prayers for India. Your contributions will allow us to focus our time and attention on India's surgery and recovery. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

A little more background...
For those unfamiliar with India’s condition, Portal Vein Thrombosis is the doctor’s fancy way of saying that the vein that brings blood from the digestive tract to the liver is blocked. None of the doctors are able to explain why it happened, as none of the typical culprits were present, so we have tried our best to manage it until it could be fixed. Luckily, our pediatrician noticed that her spleen seemed to be enlarged and ordered an ultrasound, ultimately ending in an MRI, a biopsy, and her diagnosis.

Since January of 2017, India has endured:

· 2 GI bleeds with two hospital stays of 8 and 9 days, respectively
· 2 Endoscopies with Sclera Therapy
· 1 case of bacterial pneumonia
· 2 PICC lines and two rounds of IV antibiotics administered at home
· 1 Cardio Catheter Procedure

Through all of this, India has continued to grow and develop. She loves her baby brother, Elmo, dancing to music, and being read to. We are hopeful that with the Meso Rex Shunt procedure, India will recover fully and be able to lead a normal life!
