<div>Hello! My name is Dr. Emily Lazarou and I’m the owner and founder of Santa Sami, a charity close to my heart. This charity was inspired by my daughter, Sami, and my love for her as the mother of this little person who suffers from Autism. Autism is a Neurodevelopmental Disorder that affects all types of children from all types of backgrounds. This disorder not only potentially impacts their intellect but also affects their socialization and how they perceive the world around them using their 5 senses. Because of Sami’s Autism, she learns in a special needs classroom full of children with Neurodevelopmental delays, intellectual disabilities and Autism.

<div>Santa Sami was developed because I saw a need for Sami and her classmates through a Christmas party I hosted when she was only 4 years old. As I was receiving the RSVPs from the parents of the children invited to the party, I was surprised to speak with those parents of children with special needs. They were so grateful for the invitation because they never thought their child would ever be invited to a party because of their social behavior. Santa Sami is a charity with a heart. A heart for those with Autism. We want to provide these children with a happy Christmas.

<div>Many parents that have children with Autism are forced to choose between having a wonderful Christmas for their children or providing them with the critical treatments that they need as a part of their daily lives. Treatments for Autism are considered “experimental” by most health insurance plans and therefore are not covered, shifting the costs onto the family – giving them a substantial financial burden to bear. These treatments, though experimental, provide families with these children hope that one day their child will grow up to be a productive member of society despite their condition.
