Open Door Romania Core Operations and Farmstead

The Open Door Foundation is an organization that helps rescue, protect, and reintegrate women who are victims of human trafficking in Romania. We have an impeccable track record in fighting traffickers, child pornographers and domestic abusers in court, as well as uprooting systems by providing financial aid and educational programs in vulnerable village sites.
The shelter is a safe space for victims who have escaped human trafficking and are fighting a largely corrupt and sexist legal system. We provide victims with legal, and psychological counseling, as well as vocational training of their choice.
When we asked our community of women what job they were most keen to learn, the majority answered "farming". As such we are now raising money for core operations and a farmstead that will provide our girls with the long term support they need.
A large number of the women who selected the “farmer" industry suffer from severe PTSD and will likely need long-term assistance. Spending time in nature and working with animals and plants has profound healing qualities which is why farm employment has been extremely beneficial to our community's rehabilitation and health.
The farmstead will likely also revitalize a village that is currently deserted and provide education and sustenance for families that are part of the Open Door network, making our food program more self-sufficient.
Lastly, The Open Door Farmstead will practice traditional and conservation agriculture which uses cover crops, crop rotation, and minimal tilling in the production of annual crops. It protects and enriches soil, avoids emissions, and sequesters carbon in the process!
