A Car for Rob

Our neighbor Rob doesn't want a "hand out", but needs a "hand up"...
Rob is 75
He lost his seasonal job as dishwasher and is currently dependent solely on social security, as his unemployment has recently run out. Since last fall Rob has been walking, sometimes several times per week, to the bus stop. Mostly Rob is out hunting for a job and frequenting the local charities and food banks. What may be for many a 30 to 45 minute walk to the bus stop is a one to two hour "shuffle" for Rob.
Rob is deserving
My family and others in the local community have been helping Rob with transportation and other assistance for a few months now. We have come to know him as a kind and gentle man of integrity. He is trying his hardest to step up and become self-sufficient. We have seen his diligence and consistency in doing hard things.
Rob lives with his daughter and appreciates what she can provide for him. He has been paying what he can for expenses although without unemployment income it will be less and more hardship for them both. He is on a long waiting list for low income housing through St. Vincent de Paul.
Rob really wants to be more independent...
but there's is one big problem: No transportation.
Rob's old car has suffered irreparable damage and is sitting in front of his house broken down. Professional mechanics have confirmed it is not worth fixing. Without a car, Rob must walk everywhere, in all types of weather.
Rob is tired of being dependent...
and really wants a job, but without a vehicle Rob's emloyment opportunities are severely hampered. He needs a car not only to initially get him to interviews, but to get to and from the job once he's hired.
We are seeking only $2500 to buy him a basic, dependable vehicle. Rob doesn't need a nice car... he just needs a car that runs consisitently. We have spoken to one local auto repair shop that is willing to help Rob find a reliable car.
