A Bed for a Cancer Patient

Donation protected
If you’ve read the short bios on my Facebook page or my blog (https://chubbywomanwalkabout.com/about/cancer/), you already know this information, but I’ll share it with those of you who may not know yet.

On Thanksgiving Day 2018, I was rushed to the hospital with severe pain in my abdomen.

It turned out I had two forms of endometrial cancer; one somewhat sluggish and passive and the other one super-aggressive. The aggressive one had formed a tumor the size of a grapefruit (which I called “Wilson” after the soccer ball in the movie “Castaway” with Tom Hanks) in my abdomen which is what was causing the pain I was feeling. Go to my blog and you can see a video of my CAT scan.

Wilson was removed in mid-December 2018, but not before he took the opportunity to rupture and spew cancer cells throughout my abdomen (which I now call “The Sons of Wilson”). There’s no way to tell where the cells will attach themselves to next, and the prognosis is not a good one.

Bottom line, I may have about 3 years left to live.

Rather than spending that time having chemo treatments which would make me miserable and not guarantee me any more time, I’ve decided to forego treatment and spend my final years doing what I love: nature walks, photography, and teaching naturalists classes.

Recently, my health issues have included a deteriorating left hip (the same side as Wilson) and my too-old mattress just can't help me get comfortable at all. The hip pain makes it difficult to sleep, sit, drive and walk and I believe a new mattress and adjustable base will help me get more comfortable and remove pressure from the hip so it can move about more naturally when I'm up.

I'd like to get something like a Classic Brands Cool Gel 2.0 Chill Memory Foam 14-Inch Mattress with Adjustable Comfort Adjustable Base  that's available through Amazon.com. (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TFYVCNR/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1) I'd like a mattress without coiled springs so I can rotate it regularly.

Any help you can give me toward purchasing the mattress and adjustable frame will help my final years greatly.  If you can't donate now, please share this request through your own social media outlets (https://www.gofundme.com/f/a-bed-for-a-cancer-patient).

Thank you so much for your generosity.
