<div>My name is Kayla. For years, I've served my community as an Emergency Room nurse here in Southeast Michigan. I've seen firsthand the intense, often overwhelming environment of the ED—a space that is particularly challenging for patients experiencing a mental health crisis.

<div>Due to critical shortages in psychiatric beds and the high acuity of their needs, many patients are often stuck in the Emergency Room for days—sometimes even weeks—waiting for a placement, many of whom are children. This is not just a frustrating delay; it's a profound period of vulnerability and isolation. In a clinical, often chaotic setting, they may be left without adequate resources to cope during this waiting period.

<div>This cause is deeply personal to me. As a mother and an ER nurse, my own mental health journey has given me a deep understanding of what it feels like to struggle and feel isolated. It’s a pain I see reflected in the eyes of my patients every day, inspiring me to do more than just monitor their labs, imaging and vitals.

<div><strong>The Project: Healing Hands Compassion Kits</strong>

<div>I am launching this GoFundMe to create and freely distribute mental health "Compassion Kits" to psychiatric patients being held in emergency rooms across Southeast Michigan.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>These kits are designed to be a small beacon of comfort during a stressful wait. They will contain safe, simple, therapeutic items chosen to promote self-soothing, mindfulness, and a sense of connection.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>My son is my biggest inspiration, helping me to construct the first batch of kits for donation, which were well received, but went quickly!
</div>

<div><strong>All Funds raised will be used exclusively to:</strong>

<div>Purchase Supplies: Items like soothing adult and child coloring books, crayons, small journals, stress balls or fidget toys, personal hygiene items, and words of affirmation/mindfulness exercise cards.
</div>

</div>
<div>Assemble and Organize: Cover the costs of assembling and distributing the kits in safe, organized packaging.
</div>

</div>
<div>Donate Kits: Deliver the finished, free-of-charge, gifted kits directly to local Emergency Departments and their patients.
