Embracing The Way - an eclectic tour and album


Most musicians record an album first and then go on tour to promote it. I'm doing things backwards. I'm actually going on the road through several countries in Europe this summer to record the album. It's a musical adventure which combines my love for traveling with my desire to express and experience my music in a more personal, grass-roots way. I'll be performing a home concert as well as co-writing and recording with a variety of musicians in each city I visit. These recordings will culminate in an album at the end of the tour, which will be mixed, mastered, and released in the spring of 2014.

I sing, therefore I am
I'm Zani McPherson (USA/Panama) singer/songwriter/performer.
I was born in the U.S. into a multi-cultural family: Dad, of Spanish/Apache roots, and Mom, from Panama. When I was seven, I moved with my family to Pernambuco, Brazil, where my love for singing, and passion for drumming was born. Returning to the U.S. at age eleven, Los Angeles became my home. This crossroads of world class musicians was the fertile soil I needed to develop my talent, and it gave me the opportunity to perform and record with established world music artists. Wanting to get closer to the pulse of the world music scene, I moved to Paris in 2003. I eventually made my way to Spain and in 2010 I recorded two of my songs, Para No Para and Wide World, in Madrid, where I currently live and perform regularly.

The Concerts
As an independent artist I am always looking for fresh, original ways to reach a broader audience. I love the organic nature of home concerts particularly for the lasting, personal connections I make.
I also love the challenge of performing in other non-traditional settings, so I'll be seeking out such opportunities as well. I'm traveling solo, which means I get to meet and play with local musicians in every city. I'm going to end up with an amazing new network of friends!

The Tour
I'm struck by wanderlust and have a passion for road trips, thanks to my dad*. I'll be traveling by car through several countries in the EU, performing home concerts in as many cities as time and budget allow. You can see my intended route here (it's a bit ambitious but I've got two months). I love meeting locals and travelers along the way, learning about their culture and listening to their fascinating stories. All of this feeds my creative process and makes its way into my songs.

The Album
Embracing The Way, the album, will be a collaborative world fusion CD. Some of the songs for the album already have a life of their own and have been waiting patiently to be released. Others will be written and given life along the way, resulting in a very eclectic collection. These songs are reflections on personal experiences and observations about life as it happens around me.
