About a month ago my little brother Zacary, age 15, was critically injured in a hit and run accident while sitting outside of a fast food place near his high school. Two girls jumped the curb and ran right into my brother crushing him between the brick wall of the resturaunt and their car. The girls were minors and did not have licenses. They didn't back off of him. The car had to be pushed off of him, once they were off they switched drivers and took off, not even bothering to check if he was okay.
After 7 hours of surgery Zac was finally in stable condition. His pelvis was shattered... Having to be repaired with 4 metal plates and about 20 screws. He also required surgery to repair internal injuries to his bladder, spleen, appendix, and intestines. He spent two weeks in the ICU unable to eat solid foods or really do anything for himself. He finally started to feel better and was able to be home just in time for Christmas, although he is unable to walk and is relying on a wheelchair to get around.
The people involved in the accident (the two girls, and the owner of the vehicle) were really not insured at all and can only cover $25,000 of the nearly $200,000 hospital bills. We do not by aniy means expect any amount of money but we do appreciate what can be given, we are struggling emotionally and financially through this and any form of support is appreciated.
