York Rescue Vehicle Appeal
This project aims to upgrade and improve one of the team’s water rescue vehicles. We currently use a Mitsubishi L200 as our primary towing vehicle for one of our boats. The vehicle is always on standby to respond to incidents both across York and the wider UK during times of extreme flooding as well as assisting during poor weather such as heavy snow. The plan is to upgrade the vehicle by enlarging and increasing the rear storage area. The new unit will contain internal all round lighting and customised shelving allowing the safe storage of equipment. The new shelving will also help to protect the team’s equipment as well as providing improvements to access making it safer and easier for our team to remove and stow equipment. Additionally sliding storage trays will be provided to the storage of the boat outboard engine helping to eliminate manual handling risks for the team. The unit will also contain a mains inverter providing a power source to charge the team’s radios and scene lighting. A compressor will also be fitted allowing the rapid inflation of the team’s equipment saving valuable minutes in an emergency.
A replacement winch will be fitted increasing the teams capability’s when assisting in rescues involving vehicles stuck in both floods and snow
Finally the teams high visibility search and rescue branding will be renewed across the whole vehicle

York Rescue Boat is an independent lifeboat and flood rescue team based in York. As well as patrolling and responding to incidents on the waterways of York our flood team is part of the national asset register and can be deployed anywhere in the country.
In 2015 our flood rescue team was deployed to both Cumbria and York where they carried out multiple rescues.
So far this year the team has been involved in over 90 incidents, responded to 35 call outs from both the police and fire service and saved 3 lives
