Dear Friends and Family,
Recently I took a huge risk, pushing myself outside of my comfort zone: I spoke publically and presented myself in front of hundreds, interviewed 6 times, and met new friends. How did I get to do all of these things as a 9 year old? I participated in my first pageant.
Unlike most pageants you see on TV, this pageant's mission is to empower girls to be their best, to let their inner beauty shine and to develop life skills such as interviewing, public speaking, identifying then expressing self-confidence and community involvement. I wanted to learn these skills to use in any endeavor I tackle, so I committed to trying my best. Qualifying as a state finalist was a high honor:I decided right away to start practicing and developing skills taught by National American Miss (NAM).
Leading up to the pageant, I worked really hard on developing my confidence and practicing my communication skills; I went out into the community and talked about everything I was learning through NAM. I learned about the importance of first impressions, how posture conveys confidence, the importance of eye contact while speaking and got advice on how to answer questions in an interview - I also spoke of my personal goals. By sharing this message, I met a lot of really nice people who bought ads in support of me and of the values of the National American Miss program. My hard work paid off; because of my outstanding participation and community involvement I was crowned the 2013 Pennsylvania State Cover Girl.
I'm so excited to represent Pennsylvania this November as I compete at nationals in California. I'm equally excited to represent girls and NAM right here at home. As the PA Cover Girl, I will travel throughout the state to share the motto of NAM "“ being "today's girl and tomorrow's leader".
NAM encourages girls to reach out and become a role model for those around you, extending your success by giving back. I've been fortunate to volunteer and serve several programs in my community and throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Recently, I found one program that I feel exceptionally passionate about: Girls on the Run (GOTR).
I want to help my friends and other girls to find their joy, health and confidence:similar to my recent experience. Will you help me in funding a GOTR program for 3rd-5th graders at my school, Wellsville Elementary? To get started, we need at least 8 girls to participate; the cost to participate is $100 per girl.
My goal is to partner with the community to raise $400 to be offered in various scholarship amounts for girls who want to join this group. The program coaches will determine the winners of the scholarships based on need and merit. If our new group doesn't kickoff, the money raised will be donated directly to GOTR to help other girls throughout Pennsylvania.
I have grown tremendously through NAM but want to grow and learn even more. As mentioned, this fall I'm going to California to participate in the national pageant where I will continue my personal development: public speaking, interview skills, presenting myself with confidence and promoting community service. As Pennsylvania Cover Girl, I am honored to have been selected to represent and promote such a worthwhile program, National American Miss.
My next personal goal is to win a national title to further my reach and responsibilities. I am asking for your help to cheer me on and get me to California. Would you consider buying an ad in support of me? Your ad will appear in the national pageant program book and at the same time, it will help me cover costs to attend. Ads can be personal words of encouragement to me; can promote your business "“ or both! My goal is to sell 3 full pages of ads.
Your tax-deductible contribution to either organization (GOTR or NAM) will be a big help in reaching my goals. There are several levels of giving for each program.
