I would like to express my sincere thanks to all of you who have generously donated to my "Will's New Ride" campaign. Thanks to all of you, I am very close to my goal, and a newer, safer, more dependable method of transportation is in my not-so-distant future. For those of you who are seeing this for the first time, please read my story and donate if you can. And if you have seen this before, please help spread the word by any means. MY STORY
Until the age of 5, I was just a normal kid. One that was able to run around and play with my younger siblings and just enjoy the carelessness of childhood. However, about the time I started kindergarten, I was diagnosed with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. Duchenne’s is a very aggressive disease that progresses throughout the body, beginning in the legs. I have become weaker over the years and was only briefly able to do things that normal kids could do. But, by the time I was 15, I had lost my ability to walk and my whole life had changed drastically. I became dependent on a scooter, followed by a wheelchair, to get around.
Nevertheless, I have achieved most milestones a healthy person accomplishes when growing up and I couldn't have done it without the love and care of my family and friends. I recently graduated from Ball State University with a degree in Telecommunications and a member of the fraternity FIJI, and I’m on my way to beginning a whole new chapter in my life. There is, however, one issue that is causing me stress and anxiety at this time. Currently, my mode of transportation consists of 1997 handicap accessible van that has become extremely unreliable and unsafe to drive. The lift that is used to get me in and out of the van is also quite old and many of the replacement parts are no longer available. So, my goal, with your help, is to raise money to use toward a newer, more reliable handicap van that I can depend on for years to come. I would very much appreciate any financial assistance you can share with me so I can begin this new, exciting chapter in my life, knowing I can get around safely in a vehicle that will get me to work or wherever I need to go.
