Willmers’ Fire Relief Fund

Raymond, Kate, and their daughter, Julia
These are our wonderful neighbors, the Willmers.   On October 8, they lost their home to the Kenwood Fire that devastated our Kenilworth neighborhood.   They were able to escape with what few things they grabbed before evacuating. Everything burned, except for one vehicle.  The Willmers have been a vital part of the Kenilworth community for over 20 years; as neighbors, they are the ones who help unify and make our neighborhood a lovely, cohesive set  of friends. Raymond is the one who always checks in on others, making sure they are ok.  In fact, the night of the fire storm, he was the one who was calling the neighbors, warning them to evacuate.  He also is the one who makes sure our alternative exit from the Kenilworth community is open in an emergency so that people can safely exit.  He did that the night of the fire, and ironically, his is the house that burned down.  Raymond has always been involved, serving on neighborhood committees and even officiating as the minister at the wedding of one of the neighbors.  For entry to our close-knit community, we must drive through a one-lane, tree-lined road.  Raymond is the guy who during the night uses his chainsaw to clear fallen trees so the rest of us can get to work the next  morning. Raymond, like so many people in Sonoma County, works in the wine industry, which has also been devastated.  For years, Kate taught ESL  at a Sonoma school to help those nonnative residents needing to learn English. Their daughter Julia is finishing a degree in Economics at UC Davis.

Please join us in helping this fabulous, kind family in starting to rebuild their life. This has been a devasting, traumatic experience for the Willmers.  Together, we can make their lives liveable and the recovery a bit more bearable.

About us:  We are Quent Carter and Jim Spencer, neighbors of the Willmers on Kenilworth Ave in Kenwood, California.

It is our understanding that it will take a substantial amount of money to initially get a family back on its feet.  The money donated will be used for food, clothing, transportation, personal necessities, and temporary shelter in the interim and during the months it takes to rebuild. The  ultimate goal is to have the Willmers rebuild at the spot of their former home.  Our close-knit community cannot imagine their not being our neighbors.

Please join us in helping the Willmers recover from this horrific loss.
