Dr. William H. Knapp Memorial Fund

Dr. WIlliam Knapp, III passed away unexpectedly on 9/10/17. He was a beloved friend, colleague, teacher, mentor, father, brother, uncle, nephew, and son. William had a big heart and a welcoming smile. William tried to build people up, rather than tear them down. He made people feel welcome and able. He never hesitated to help others, whether they were lifelong friends or complete strangers. Even if he didn’t know you, he tried to assume the best about you. He liked to make people laugh, and he had the humility to make people laugh the hardest by poking fun at himself.
William’s greatest passions were being a father and being an educator. He leaves behind his three children and more students than can be counted, from as far west as Oregon to as far east as Istanbul. William shined when he was teaching. His excitement about his field, concern for his students and creativity in his thinking were palpable. His dedication to his teaching practice was unsurpassed. We invite those interested to view his lectures on youtube (William's Youtube Channel), including his “Last Lecture” at Istanbul Şehir University.
We have set up this fund to honor William’s incredible spirit by helping support the needs of his three children as they cope with the unexpected loss of their beloved father.
Please post a favorite memory or two of William in the comments, if you are able to do so. We will compile these memories into a book for his children and family, so that they have these additional memories and stories to carry with them.

Update: Those of us who put this together wanted to thank you for donating to William's memorial fund! It has been heartwarming to see William's friends, colleagues, students, loved ones, and even people he never met come together to offer their support for his children. In addition to the fund, we hope that the memories many have shared here will provide comfort and support to his children in the years to come.
