Kokua Fund for Will Hao

Donation protected
Aloha, Friends!

Our brother, Will Ha’o, is on a journey with cancer and we’re hoping you can kokua to make it as stress-free as possible for him.

Over the next seven months he will be having three rounds of chemotherapy, surgery in September for stomach cancer, and then another three rounds of chemotherapy. He’s very upbeat, feeling safe with his team of physicians and oncologist, and very optimistic.

He’s dipping into his modest retirement fund during this journey, but he could use our help in securing a stable and stress-minimized living situation, taking care of medical expenses not fully covered by insurance, and having the resources to afford healthy, nutritious food and transportation coverage to his medical appointments.

Will has been a champion of theater and the dramatic arts for most of the last five decades. In New York City he performed onstage and volunteered for various theaters and theatrical events.  He also volunteered for five years at Mother’s Kitchen, helping to feed the poor.

Since his return to Hawaii in 2005, he has humbly, and without seeking financial gain or security, dedicated his life to helping Hawaii’s people tell their stories through theater. As an actor and director, Will has inspired and nurtured countless budding talents and voices.

At McKinley High School, he directed students in the memorial celebration of his mentor Jim Nakamoto, who had been an inspirational drama teacher at the school. He then directed students in a production of GODSPELL and in Spring 2016 he helped to re-establish the drama program at the school. He has truly honored the memory of his mentor by continuing to inspire the next generation of students in theater and in life. As an actor, Will has moved audiences with his memorable performances that linger in the hearts and minds of those who witness them.

All of Will’s work celebrates the human spirit: he is a true artist and a very generous soul. Now it’s time for us to give back to him as we can.

Please consider making a donation to this campaign fund for him.

Go Fund Me will keep 8% of the donations and 92% of all donations will go directly to supporting Will on this journey.

With all your good wishes and pule, we’ll look forward to his recovery and future good work. Mahalo for considering helping out our brother Will.

 With aloha and big hugs,
Thom Kam and Karen Yamamoto Hackler
