Wifi for Vieques

Hurricane Maria made landfall on Vieques on September 20th, it has been over 35 days and the our Isla Nena is still without power, cell service and of course WIFI. Without reliable phone service many residents have been unable to communicate with family members, file insurance claims and purchase necessities online. Our goal is to bring faster, more reliable internet to the people of Vieques. Thanks to our generous donors we are running on solar power and our service is being provided free of charge from a carrier on the main island. We have been able to provide a better internet connection in the plaza. Fifty users at a time can access our reliable internet, at no charge. We have provided FEMA with internet, allowing residents to file their claims. Lastly we have supplied one gas station with the ability to run credit cards. We are hoping to bring these same services to Esperanza. Esperanza is in serious need of help and access to communications. There is zero cell service on the South side of Vieques. Residents are forced to drive to the North side to make attempts at communication. Many do not have cars and those that do need to conserve gas.
