Help Gabby buy a Handicap Van.

This is my sister Gaby.

She was victim to a shooting in 2011 that left her quadriplegic. For the last 9 years she has been practically housebound because she doesn't have a wheelchair accessible vehicle. On the rare occasion that she does leave her house, her husband has to physically carry her out of her wheelchair and into their current vehicle, which is not an easy task.

I have created this GoFundMe page to help her raise the last $20,000 that is needed for the wheelchair accessible vehicle, and so that she is able to get some of her freedom back and live a more fulfilling life.

She wanted to share her story below.

How One Bullet Changed My Life

My Name is Gabriela Leyva. On June 17, 2011 my life changed. One afternoon after work, my dad and i were home. When out of nowhere and unprovoked my stepbrother, at the time, came in the living room and shot me point blank in the head. Then proceeded to fatally shoot my dad. I survived but was left permanently quadriplegic.

I never imagined myself in a situation like this. It has been life changing, not only for me , but for my family. I am the oldest of four siblings, and now I don't feel that I can be that big sister for them. Now because of my disability, I miss being independent and helping my family.

Now I see and experience life so drastically different, such as when my nose is itching and I can no longer scratch it myself. Despite what I can and can't do, I am extremely lucky and thankful to be alive. God left me on this earth for a reason. He also gave me an angel, who cares for me in every single way.  That angel is my husband Luis, we met before my accident, and he has been by my side ever since. He accepts me for who i am, we even got married after my accident.

He truly is the person that makes my life joyful and moves heaven & earth to make me happy. As well as the support of my family, has made it much easier to cope and accept my disability, making it easier to get through each day. I have a phrase that I always reference, "Things have to get really bad, so that they can get better."

We struggle everyday with so many different things from finances to getting the care I need to be healthy. It has been several years now that I have been quadriplegic and each year that passes, I thank the Lord for letting me live another day. God really delivers living miracles, and I am one of those miracles. Life did not end for me despite all my injuries. I truly know that life is worth fighting for. I may not be able to use my legs or arms, but I can still kick ass and beat my disability to enjoy life with my family and loved ones!

My dream is that one day I can get a reliable wheelchair accessible vehicle to go out with my family and to make life a little easier for us. Despite my diagnosis, I want to continue to enjoy my life with my family. If you can help with my dream, I will be eternally grateful. I know this Van would be a HUGE help for me to go places. So please help if possible, so I can spread my wings!!!

Thank you all for reading & I really appreciate your donations.
