Hannah's Discipleship School

Dear Lovely Humans,

I am writing today to share exciting news about an opportunity that has opened up for me. YWAM (Youth With A Mission) Lausanne, Switzerland has invited me to come join them for their discipleship training school in January. It is a five month long program, which you can read about in more detail below. I believe this program will give me a deeper understanding of how to serve the world with  greater impact.

I am asking you to partner with me in whatever way you can. In these five months I will be living with a group of people that I do not yet know. This will come with a period of patience and growth, which can often be frustrating. I will also be doing intensive self-discovery and work on emotional health. This can bring issues/trauma to the surface, and I will need support from the people who love and know me best. Financial support is an area that makes me uncomfortable, however I will not be able to make this happen without it. Other ways that I would love to feel support is through sending me notes of encouragement, good thoughts, hugs from afar and prayer.

I am still working out how much I can afford to pay myself, but for now have set a GoFundMe target that I believe will make this program possible. In the meantime, here is more information about the finances of the next five months of my life. The lecture phase (January 9th - March 29th) is $4,056. The outreach phase (the dates and location are TBD, but the program ends on May 30th) will cost anywhere from $3,051-$5,596, and is due while I'm there. All of the financial aid I receive will be used for tuition (includes housing and food) and travel expenses. Because the outreach phase varies financially depending on location, I have decided that anything over the amount that is needed will be donated to an organization. I will put out a poll with different options when I learn of the location.

Still with me?

I would like to share with you a bit of my heart and why I believe God has brought me to this juncture in my life. I have always had a heart for missions. Over the years I have been unsure of what that looks like and how to pursue it. I have followed several avenues that all led to other avenues that ended in a lot of knowledge and little understanding of where to go next. Over the past nine months I started looking at what pulled me towards missions. Researching society, cultures, global economy, politics and environmental disasters. While researching I saw great deficiencies whether it showed through poverty, inadequacies in education, lack of unity, how sustainability seems to be unattainable in so many areas of the world…etc. I could continue for quite awhile. I desire to see restoration happen globally. However, I have an eagerness to see this done efficiently from the roots up. In christian culture I have seen firsthand how at times we tend to fill needs without the correct cultural understanding and not having a depth of understanding of what the root of the need is. Although the intention behind serving is beautiful and powerful, the follow through has created a co-dependence. What happens to people that we are trying to impact when we are no longer there? Are we setting them up for success in the environment and cultural circumstances they are in? What if we were able to leave knowing that we had taught a sustainable living for them to continue even in the absence of others. This is one of the reasons I have decided to take these next five months to invest my time in searching and learning in depth the avenues that have the greatest positive impact. I am hoping to come away with a new depth of knowledge on what is happening around the world and the most efficient way of starting to restore the root of the problem.

The program begins with a three month lecture phase that focuses on my team and I growing through the mentorship and guidance of speakers and leaders on our personal, emotional and spiritual development. Exploring God’s purpose and intention for missions in all aspects of life and researching global affairs in depth. I am very passionate about seeing and being a part of how missions can be changed from the core. The second phase is where we take all the training we have received and put it into action which is the outreach phase. I am so excited for this journey to begin and cannot wait to see what God will do through this time.

Thanks for taking time to read about the journey I will be embarking on next in life. I appreciate greatly any support that you are able to give.

With love,
Hannah
