Nist's second chance to LIFE!

Donation protected

On May 22, 2018,  My brother Nistor (we call him Nist…rhymes with ‘feast’) and his wife Andrea were in a terrible car accident in my home country of Romania.  Nist was airlifted from the scene to a hospital for immediate surgery, as the right side of his skull was crushed into his brain.  Both Andrea’s and Nist’s hearts briefly stopped en route to separate hospitals.  Andrea was subsequently treated for severe organ damage along with neck, spinal and back injuries.  After five weeks in the hospital she was released to finish her recovery at home, but remains restricted to a full neck  brace.

As for my brother Nist, the doctors didn’t hold much hope for his recovery due to the severe nature of his injuries.  He remained in a coma  at ICU for 43 days before finally showing some positive signs of recovery.  During this time he also contracted at least six different infections, acquired a medication induced ulcer, and developed a bed sore the size of adult palm that required surgery.  These additional complications made it very difficult to find an appropriate hospital to continue Nist’s post-ICU recovery and begin the long road of rehabilitation.  So after being sent to 3 different hospitals throughout the country over the span of 86 days, he was finally released into our care at home as a temporary option while we waited for an appropriate rehabilitation option to become available.
As of Sept 12th,  Nist began his treatment  in Baile Felix, one of the best rehabilitation centers in Romania.  The doctors think his recovery may take up to 2 years, particularly given that he is, in many ways, like a child in his current state and he had to re-learn how to walk, eat, speak, and become independent once again.  However, by the grace of God, we believe and pray that his recovery will be on a much faster timeline than the one proposed by his doctors.  We have already seen God’s hands at work on Nist throughout this process…most notably by the fact that he’s survived a trauma so severe that they didn’t believe recovery would be likely!

As many of you know, I boarded a plane within hours of receiving the news of Nist and Andrea’s accident in May and have been living by his side from one hospital to another since that time.  Throughout this journey, I can’t even  begin to express my deep appreciation for steady flow of prayers and the kind words of support directed toward Nist’s recovery.  This outreach has been so incredibly important to our entire family, as we’ve all put our lives on hold to make sure that Nist has all of the love and care he needs to reach his full recovery potential.

In your messages, many of you have also expressed interest in finding ways to support Nist and our family in this long and difficult journey.   In response to your generous and repeated requests for ways to help, we have decided to launch this #NistSecondChance campaign as an avenue for being able to donate toward the financial support of Nist and his family as he continues down the road of healing.

Thank you again for all of your thoughts, prayers, words of encouragement and anything else you can provide in support of Nist’s new path to full health and I also want to thank you in advance for sharing this #NistSecondChance campaign on social media.

With God, all things are possible!
