HELP US TAKE WADING HOME, THE OPERA, TO SOUTH AFRICA!

You have helped us present Wading Home, the opera, the triumphant story of a family’s struggle after Hurricane Katrina, to Dallas and New Orleans audiences! Now we are going a little further, well a lot further! We are thrilled to be taking the cast and crew of Wading Home to South Africa!!

We are excited!! But we need your help!

Many of our young & talented artists cannot afford the expense of such an ambitious project. Will you help with a donation?

This campaign is for the students made by the students. This is not connected to any other organization or institution. Thank you!

Wading Home is the story of a young musician’s struggle to find his missing father in the chaotic aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Based on the novel of the same name by Dallas author and violinist Rosalyn Story, the opera, was composed by Dallas musician Mary Alice Rich. We, the Wading Home cast and crew would first like to say thank you to all the supporters, donors and organizations that have donated to our cause. It is with respect that we share with you the strength, power and perseverance we have observed in the people of New Orleans.

As the nation observed the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in 2015, Wading Home, the opera was performed in Dallas with world renowned baritone Donnie Ray Albert leading the cast of superb artists, many of whom were students. With the help of your generosity and the cast's tenacity, we were able to bring Wading Home to New Orleans to collaborate with Loyola University for 2 performances.

We now are seeking your support as we travel to South Africa. Yes! You heard right, we are collaborating in performance with South Africans in 3 cities! We are overjoyed to be working with accomplished conductors, singers, and children's ensembles while on tour!

WHY South Africa? With the backdrop of oppressing powers, insurmountable odds, such as life after apartheid, South Africa is the heart of racial reconciliation and a future set in the hopes for their children! This is much like the America we call home today! Through this opera, Wading Home, many will see that despite the distance that separates us, culture, class or even a whole ocean, we are more alike than we are different. Art has no boundaries!

The money raised will go directly to the students. We are seeking to raise $12,000.00! We are hoping that through this process we can lessen if not, eliminate all additional travel expenses for students! The students have worked SO hard on this project, late night rehearsals and harsh deadlines all to bring this miraculous story to the stage. We are so honored to be a part of this ‘life-changing’ tour and we pray you will help us make our dream a reality!

“Music can change the world because it can change people” -

Thank you for all your love and support! It means the world to us that you want to help us accomplish this incredible goal! Please share! Thank you!
