Vision Therapy for Anastasia

Donation protected
Anastasia has been diagnosed with Convergence insufficiency, High exophoria, Strabismus and Amblyopia.

These conditions are neurological visual, and strongly effect her learning and daily life. Stasti is an avid reader, but these conditions have greatly affected her ability to finish a book, maintain attention, and correctly follow optical directions.

When given perceptual vision testing, she scored below normal on many areas including visual sequential-memory, tracking, biocularity, and more.

Stasi will need Vision Therapy to help correct these conditions. Without treatment, her left eye could loose nearly all function.

Vision Therapy is a progressive, non-surgical method of retraining the eyes and brain to work together. During therapy, the patient engages in a series of exercises and procedures with lenses and prisms in conjunction with patching to build new eye coordination skills.  The goal is that both eyes become cosmetically straight and work as a team. This results in improved accuracy of visual information making daily tasks easier. Nothing about vision therapy is centered on strengthening eye muscles. This therapy is all about improving vision problems that may interfere with learning by strengthening the neurological pathways between the eyes and the brain.

Vision Therapy is very effective, but unfortunately also very pricey.

The total cost for 20 Therapy sessions with Dr. Linda Dejmek of "A B See Vision Therapy Center" in Menasha, Wisconsin is $4,036.

It is over an hour drive each way and they would like to see her once a week. Stasi will continue her daily eye exercises at home with the help of a family member.
After 20 weeks of visual rehab, the doctor will re-evaluate her progress and determine if further vision therapy is required.

It is a timely and costly endeavor, but we are hopeful that Stasi can regain full use of her eyesight, and continue on with her favorite pastime; reading.

Anastasia is an artistic, outgoing, quirky young woman, with fierce perseverance and courage. Any and all contributions to her vision therapy would be a huge blessing in her life. We have no doubt she will persevere through her daily home eye exercises and weekly in office therapy appointments with grace and determination.
