<div>My name is Kumar, and I serve as a Director, Trustee, and Project Manager at MDSL, a UK-registered charity established in 2011. Since our founding, we have worked tirelessly to support vulnerable communities in Sri Lanka through education, livelihood development, and sustainable community projects, particularly in regions still recovering from the effects of conflict.<br />

<div>What we have achieved over the years:

<div>MDSL has successfully supported numerous grassroots initiatives through our Primary Level Development (PLD) and Secondary Level Development (SLD) programmes.

Primary Level Development (PLD)

Our PLD projects focus mainly on education, training, and essential support that help vulnerable individuals build a foundation for a better future.

These projects have included:

* Start-up education programmes and after-school classes
* Diploma and degree courses
* Nursery Teacher diploma and management courses
* Advanced Level educational support for university entrance preparation
* Training for domestic driving licences
* Training for Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) licences

These initiatives help provide knowledge, confidence, practical skills, and opportunities for long-term personal development.

<div>Through PLD and SLD, <strong>we have helped roughly 750 beneficiaries</strong>, contributing to poverty eradication in the region. However, much more remains to be done.

<div><strong>Our current work:</strong>










</div>










<div>We are currently <strong>supporting 27 A-Level students</strong> in the Eastern Province for their 2025/2026 University entrance public examinations. This cohort will receive support until their exams in January 2026. Previous cohorts had impressive pass rates: over 87% in 2023 (with 41.9% entering universities) and 80.9% in 2024 (with 29% entering universities). The National College of Education is yet to announce their intake results. We are grateful to the David Tyler Trust for their support of this project.

<div>Following PLD and SLD, we are <strong>now in the phase of Tertiary Level Development</strong> (TLD), focusing on creating a farm, Vilippu Koottu Pannai 1 (VKP1), in Paranthan, Kilinochchi. This mega-project aims to generate income, create jobs, and provide training and apprenticeships among the vulnerable, leading to Continuous Development (CD) designed for exponential growth.

<div>Our vision includes <strong>expanding our farm Vilippu Koottu Pannai 1</strong> into VKP2, VKP3, and VKP4, spreading from the North through the East and West, towards the south. The CD process will create numerous jobs, training, apprenticeship positions, and seed various industries, benefiting the region significantly.

<div>The past three years have impacted our ability to fund projects due to COVID-19, global and local economic situations, and foreign exchange issues that have devalued the Sri Lankan Rupee, increasing project costs tremendously. The original estimated capital cost for VKP1 was around £16,500, but <strong>current conditions have driven costs up sixfold</strong>.
