Victorious Nathan Battles Cancer

Donation protected

Nathan Meyer is the 30 year old husband to Carrie (Wendel), loving father to 2 year old Kate, amazing friend, brother, uncle, and dedicated surveyor/citizen of Franklin County.  On December 12, he was diagnosed with brain cancer.  With medical bills mounting, this page is dedicated to helping this wonderful family, our caring friends, and a determined Nathan fight this disease without the added stress of a financial burden.  Show them how much you care and how great this world is!

A little more on his battle ….

On the morning of November 21, Nathan suffered a seizure and was transported to several hospitals.  A tumor was identified primarily on his right frontal lobe.  While placing the heart monitor leads on Nathan, nurses at UC Medical Hospital had shaved a V into his chest – nicknaming him Victorious Nathan.   His goal was to “Get Better and Go Home”.  After 3+ days in the hospital with intensive monitoring, testing, and ultimately a brain biopsy, Nathan was able to come home Thanksgiving day and spend time with family.    After 3 weeks of waiting, fears were confirmed in that this tumor was malignant.   He has suffered a few smaller seizures – the medicine for these appear to be working.  He intends to start a 6 week cycle of radiation and chemotherapy to stop the tumor’s growth and kill the cancer.

Their backstory…..

Nathan and Carrie are both Franklin County natives who may have been destined to be together at an early age.  Both are from loving farm families, they were born less than 2 months apart, and their mothers have been in the same extension homemakers group for 30+ years...there are pictures of Nathan and Carrie together as babies when their moms brought them to "club."  It seemed Nathan always had a sweet spot for this country girl and Franklin County 4-H fair queen.  In their early college years, he asked her out to their first date to a Reds game, and the rest is history. They have been inseparable ever since, married in 2009, and when they look into each other's eyes, you have never seen such love and caring in another couple.  Even in 2008 when Carrie was diagnosed with a chronic illness, Nathan never left her side.  In her words, "He's been my rock and now I want to do the same for him."  The two were blessed with Kate in 2014, and this sweet little girl with Nathan's smile and nose has captured everyone's hearts. Kate is the second love of Nathan's life, and has him wrapped around her finger, from when he is up snuggling her at 5 am because she won't go back to sleep to when he gives in and just dances with her when she won't get her jammies on for bed (she is VERY sweet, but she is still a typical 2 year old!)  Nathan was recently elected county surveyor in Franklin County.  He has worked for a local surveyor for the last several years.  Even while waiting for the biopsy result and since his diagnosis, he continues to work in the office daily.  In this job, he gets to meet individuals from all over this county, as well as neighboring areas.  He is the friend that can give you directions through the most remote parts of southeastern Indiana, having travelled through woods, fields, and hills all around.   Finding a road he doesn’t know is nearly impossible.  Through this line of work, he has come to know an unbelievable number of individuals.  The strong bonds he has formed with many, along with the extreme respect they have for him, are a direct result of his character.  Finding a more respected individual in this area is difficult.

The Goal ….. $75,000

This goal is set based on existing and future medical bills.  Nathan’s current insurance did not cover as much as they'd hoped and the ambulance transport, hospital stays, and brain surgery have already added up.  As 2017 begins, so does a different insurance but it is uncertain if it will cover his proton beam radiation (fewer side effects than regular radiation for tumors).  Doctors have advised this path even though the insurance company may not support it.  Please contribute whatever you can!
