Victor's Medical Mission

My name is Victor Jerez, I am an aspiring medical student and a future doctor, born and raised in Harlem New York. I've been blessed with a humble upbringing and understanding of those in need. Financially, it has been difficult and I am asking for your help to fhund my transportation costs to participate on a medical mission to Guatemala where I will have an opportunity to assist those without access to health care and basic resources. Practicing medicine is my passion and this trip will provide me with the opportunity to use my skills as a trained emergency medical technician and phlebotomist.

This trip would allow me to broaden my view on the real world health issues.  I will have the opportunity to treat patients directly, while shadowing doctors, and educate the community on public health issues such as diabetes, high tension, sexual transmitted infections, etc. Through Hermandad Health I will be providing eye exams and distributing corrective lenses, and medication.

I was inspired to work toward a career in the field of medicine with the hopes of finding remedies, cure and solution to many of the leading public health problems in my community. From a young age I have observed that in low socioeconomic communities the leading cause of death are due to lifestyle diseases. I am a product of this environment and because of that I want to help bring changes to places like my community. I’ve worked and volunteered in areas of public health and health care ranging from mental health, youth counseling and direct patient care.
