Vanessa's Angels - Fighting Cancer

Vanessa Bowens, my amazing mother, a special education teacher, lifelong friend, aunt and inspiration was diagnosed with colon cancer almost 6 years ago. Within a year of that diagnosis, through her strong will and determination, my mother fought hard and the cancer went into remission. March of this year, however, Vanessa's symptoms returned, leaving her with increased weakness and fatigue. Scan results showed a recurrence of the cancer, now stage 4 that had spread to her bones (base of the spine), left lung and brain.
During her first treatment nearly 6 years ago, my mother continued working as a special-needs elementary school teacher. The patience and firmness she displayed in class made her a role model to her students; and her cool and calm grace under fire made her a paragon of strength and love to her coworkers, family, friends and all around her. She never stopped doing for others, even when faced with this life-threatening disease--others came first.
Today, my mother remains a vibrant and lively spirit; always getting in a joke or smile (even when in pain) and still thinking of others before herself--although she is much weaker. She is no longer able to do for others though as she would like to do, so we created this special donor fund for her: 1) to help get and maintain the home assistance she needs to get stronger and stay comfortable, 2) relieve the burden of her medical expenses, 3) assist with transportation when needed and 4) help pay for overall life expenses as they may arise during the trials ahead.
