VFW Eagle Scout Project

My name is Alex Andrews and I am a senior at Saints Peter & Paul HS in Easton, MD. I am pursuing the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 190. As part of the requirements to obtain this rank, that only 3% of all Boy Scouts achieve, I must propose, plan and execute a community service project.
The project I have selected will be for the VFW post 5118 here in Easton, MD. I had wanted my project to somehow benefit our country’s veterans and this opportunity was a perfect fit. The athletic field at this post is in great disrepair. In fact, during my last meeting with the beneficiary representative, he wasn’t sure if there had been any repairs since he returned from Vietnam in 1970!
For my part of the improvements, I am going to restore both sets of spectator bleachers. Each of these bleachers are approximately 28 feet wide and 8 feet tall. The restoration will include full demolition of all wooden materials, prep and paint all concrete surfaces and finally replacing the wooden materials.
I am hoping that this project is the catalyst for other service projects to bring the athletic field back to both an appealing and useful site for many community activities. As of this posting, I am in the fundraising stage of the project which is estimated to cost $3,000 to complete this project. My goal is to raise enough money so that I can begin this project as soon as weather breaks and complete my fundraising goals no later than April 1st. Any funds raised above and beyond the project costs will be donated to the VFW.
Your support and generosity will be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate any funds but wish to help me earn my rank of Eagle Scout, I will post updates including work sessions for those that wish to donate their time. Looking beyond the actual project itself, it is a commitment not just to me but to show your support for all those that have served our country.
