(How It Works)

About Us:
Unremarkable is a short film project being produced by the Great River Film Initiative based in Dubuque, IA. The film is being  produced and directed by Crescentia Volz, in her first role as a producer. The Great River Film Initiative is an organization of talented and enthusiastic individuals and film companies making films in the Tri-State area of Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin. Their aim is to support and encourage film making and film makers in the regional area through providing a forum to nurture professional relationships, educating those interested in film making, encouraging community involvement, and growing a strong group of trained professionals able to support any production that may consider filming in the area. (It really is a beautiful area!)

The Film:

Unremarkable: The story of Arthur the Average.
Arthur discovers his true self hiding beneath his average exterior.

Description
A coming-of-age story of Arthur, an average American teenager, who discovers his true self hidden beneath his boring exterior. This film explores self-discovery, identity, and general teen nonsense and fun.

Plot Outline
High school senior Arthur Matthews is overwhelmingly average. He's of average height. He gets average grades. He comes from an average-sized family which lives in an average-looking house. He's the pinnacle of plain, the epitome of ordinary. He's simply unremarkable.

One dull and boring day, Arthur is asked to pick from a list of adjectives three words that most accurately describes him. Arthur has a really hard time and doesn't come up with anything. It upsets him that he can't find a way to adequately describe himself. He feels that, as an incoming senior, he ought to know who he is by now.

Arthur talks to his friends about his frustration with his lack of identity and his friends accept it with tepid interest. Arthur tells them how they each have something significant that characterizes them, but he doesn't. Then Arthur has a sudden epiphany. He realizes that in the movies, everyone in high school always fits into a certain category. If he could simulate that environment in real life, maybe he'd have one too.

Arthur comes up with a plan which he presents to his friends. He decides that the nearly universal element in high school movies is the party. Therefore, he and his friends should throw a massive high school party.

Through it all they all learn valuable lessons about identity and judging others in this hilarious and poignant story of self-discovery.

Project Details (Where the Money Goes):

Unremarkable is scheduled to be filmed in August 2015 in Dubuque, IA. Any funds we receive will go first to costs related to filming and production (feeding actors, buying necessary equipment, transportation costs, wardrobe/props, etc.), and later to marketing, promotion, and distribution. Our goal for this project is to enter it in film festivals and submit it to television networks with the intention of inspiring a television series based on this short film. We expect the running time for the completed film to be approximately 25 minutes in length.

We are currently in the post-production phase of the project. We will continue to post new developments as we get them, and will soon have some video clips to add as well!

Thank you for your support, both financial and emotional!
