The Uplift North Hills Preperatory - 8th grade - Destination Imagination Team - "Orange Marmalade" - has worked so hard this year on the DI Service Learning Project - Escape Artists. And, the results at competition have shown this. They placed 1st at the TVNCDI Regional Tournament and 5th at the Texas State Affiliate Tournament. and first in Instant Challenge competition. They now have the incredible opportunity to compete at the Destination Imagination Global Finals in May. But, we must raise funds to enable the entire Team to make the trip to Kansas City, MO where more than 1,400 of the top-scoring DI teams from 45 U.S. states and 14 countries will gather in Kansas City, MO to showcase their innovative Challenge solutions.
Destination Imagination is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students’ creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended academic Challenges in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), fine arts and service learning.
This year, our Team chose a service learning project where they had to use the creative process to identify, design, plan, and carry out a project that addresses a real community need. The Team decided to focus on "Issues of Depression in our local communities like schools and more" . To address the problem, they are working on publishing a book in which they had put in the time and effort to create a skit about a girl with depression. This story was about how a girl copes with her depression in her life and the resources she had while going through her stages of depression. This team had also decided to raise awareness for Depression by starting social media campaigns, holding assemblies in school, and lastly talking to the school counselor about more ways to benefit the community. raised funds at their school.
This is the first team opportunity to compete at the DI Global Finals. But, the cost of registration, housing, food and travel is challenging to meet for kids. Kids have taken upon themselves to raise this amount. Thus, we are asking families and friends to please help get the Team to Globals.
