Dear Supporter,

We have some exciting new developments to report since our last update in February. As a reminder, this is the 40th Anniversary of the United Anglers of Casa Grande and will be celebrating this milestone on Saturday, November 5th! More information to come.
In our last update, we shared that UACG had created a Rescue and Rearing Plan for Steelhead trout, and a permit to authorize UACG to perform these conservation efforts was winding its way through various governmental agencies for approval. This Rescue Rearing permit would allow students to collect / save stranded Steelhead in our watershed, perform tissue sampling, identify and understand rearing habitat, release them back into the wild, potentially grant us access to new lands, and improve our understanding of the species in our watershed.

Well, THE PERMIT HAS BEEN SIGNED! We have received all of the necessary approvals, and we are now officially a permitted site for the Rescue and Rearing of our native Petaluma Steelhead Trout!
Almost immediately following our Permit approval, students observed stranded Steelhead in Adobe Creek. With rainfall done for the year, and rising temperatures evaporating the size of the pools, the students performed their first live Rescue effort. And now, we have native Petaluma Watershed Steelhead in the Hatchery!
The program also successfully completed our rearing and husbandry of the Coho Salmon broodstock that were transferred from the hatcheries at Warmsprings and Santa Cruz. The students proved they were trusted and effective stewards of these Federally Endangered species! UACG is now identified as a partner in assisting in the safety of the Coho programs at both Don Clausen hatchery at Lake Sonoma and King Fisher Flat in Santa Cruz as this state's historic drought continues.

The students also hosted a visit from Board members of the Diablo Valley Fly Fishing Club. The visitors were duly impressed with the students and our program, and at the completion of the tour they presented the program with a generous donation toward our efforts to replace our chilling unit.

As we are now mainstreamed into the Federal and State Hatchery eco-system, we have learned that our ability to chill and properly maintain our water temperatures makes us unique. As such, we need a new primary chiller, estimated to cost $150,000. We are now actively fundraising toward this project.
As a reminder, the UACG is a non-profit that relies entirely on your tax-deductible donation to exist. We do not receive school district funds to operate the fish hatchery or to supply equipment and materials for the program. Therefore, it’s necessary for us to hold an annual fundraiser each year. Please help us continue our work by contributing an item for this year’s November 5th, 2022 fundraiser. There are several opportunities to help support the United Anglers fundraising efforts.
