Training for New Career Path

Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Dee, and I am a 57 year old former history professor making a late-in-life career change. I have spent the last five years after not receiving tenure at my last college struggling to find work. Teaching today has become a difficult profession with many colleges and universities hiring only adjunct or temporary instructors. For this, and many other reasons, including the difficulty of finding any work at my age, I have entered training to become an independent insurance adjuster for daily and/or catastrophe claims.

I have already spent over a $1000 of my (quickly dwindling) savings on training, and still need two important classes: State Farm Property Certification and State Farm Auto Certification. The property certification class costs $250, and the auto certification costs $500. Having both of these training sessions would increase my odds of immediate employment radically.

Both classes are being offered in late October and early November in Hammond, LA by the Worley Insurance Company. Taking them would require a four day stay in Hammond for the property class and a five day stay for the auto class. I have found a very cheap hotel for $50/night, and I plan to buy all my food from Walmart and eat everything in the room (limiting my expenses as much as possible).

With the cost of tuition for these two classes, plus lodging, food, gas, and required equipment for independent start-up (which includes items such as uniforms, steel toed shoes, a ladder, inexpensive GPS system, roof and shingle gauges, and other inspector/adjuster equipment), my total cost comes to around $2100.00 (USD)

If you, or anyone you know, could possibly help me make this transition in life, I would be eternally grateful for your generosity. I have spent my life helping others in need, including working with glue-addicted street children in Nicaragua during the four years that I lived there, along with volunteering with domestic abuse centers, homeless shelters, and Special Olympics in the U.S..

I am humbled by having to ask for help, but if you can give even just a little, or a lot, I promise that I will pay it forward when I get established in my new career. I sincerely thank you, in advance, for whatever help you might be able to give.
